How would you describe the Cloudscape sound?

Post by rai on Tue Jul 21, 2009 12:20 am

As we know Cloudscape play an awesome mix of melodic music with progressive elements and atmospheric overtones. But it seems that the band are not easy to categorize in terms of genre. Some claim they are straight up power metal, also heard AOR, Melodic Prog etc etc.

It will be interesting to know how you hear the Cloudscape sound. What stands out in comparison to other bands who play a similar style of music?

Remember your views are totally valid, so feel free to share a few thoughts. cheers

I'm not a fan of genres, or rather not a fan of the crazy genre terms thrown around (no, I don't think symphonic epic black metal is a genre).

Metal is a genre. Cloudscape definitely play metal.

Then there are extra words added to describe the sound further.
Cloudscape is melodic. Powerful (not power-metal-like-Rhapsody-ish, but really powerful). Heavy.

I'm not sure about progressive. The words "progressive elements" tends to be used on any band using odd time signatures, or bands that plays long songs, which is way off what progressive really means.
The progressive elements in Cloudscapes might be in the layers and textures of a song; it's not always there, but when it is, it's a really nice touch to the already very well performed music.

So it's a metal band. Period. Smile
